One Option on Sale, and One That Only Exists on Free Sundays
Checked for 15 September 2026, one adult, in English. The header advertises “from $40”; the only option on sale came back at $56.47, a gap of 41%. Twelve start times from 09:00, all the same price. The second option exists only for the days the park charges nothing at the gate, and it was correctly unavailable on an ordinary weekday.

The header advertises $40. The difference is not a trick so much as a habit — the advertised floor counts rows that are not on sale on the day you pick — but a 41% gap is a large one, and it is the single most common complaint in the platform's own summary of these reviews.
Whisper headsets appear only if more than fifteen people book your slot, which on a quiet date means listening to an unamplified voice on open ground.

The listing carries a second option, “Free Entry Group Tour with an Archaeologist”, for the first Sunday of the month and public holidays when the park charges nothing at the gate. On our September weekday it was, correctly, unavailable.
It is worth knowing this exists, because it is unusual: the operator down the road refuses to run at all on those days, on the grounds that the site is unbearable. This one sells you a guide for the crowd instead.
Both positions are defensible. Which you prefer depends on whether a free ticket is worth a site at capacity, and we would say it is not.

The minutes are the listing's own and it labels the itinerary “for reference only” and subject to change. What it does not label as approximate is the word Optional, which appears against four named buildings and fifty of the hundred and thirty listed minutes.
What Is in the Price, and What Is Pointedly Not

Two hours with a certified guide. The operator's phrase is “academic training in Roman archaeology and the history of Pompeii specifically”, and the guide score of 4.6 is attached to it.
Express entry to the park. The €20 ticket, bought before you arrive at the gate. The tour starts at the operator's office rather than at the entrance, which is the point of it.
A map. Paper, and listed as an inclusion in its own right — which tells you how little else there is to include.
Whisper headsets, above fifteen people. The listing's threshold. Below it there are no headsets, and the difference on open ground is whether you hear the guide or stand near them.
Free parking, conditionally. “If open and if available, from the 01/04, free parking at Osteria Nonna Cherubina” — not gated, and the restaurant disclaims liability for theft or damage. An unusual inclusion, honestly qualified.
Not included
Transport of any kind. Nothing is provided and nothing is implied. You reach Pompei Scavi yourself, which from Sorrento or Naples is the Circumvesuviana.
Food and drink. Not included. The tour ends inside the site, so lunch is a decision you make after the guide has gone.
Step-free access. Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments. The listing asks that you contact the operator before booking if you have mobility concerns, which is better than silence.

The guided part ends inside the park rather than at the exit, and the operator says its guides will suggest where to go next if asked. Your ticket runs to closing, and the park's rule is one entry with no re-entry — so the afternoon is yours provided you do not walk out for lunch.

The itinerary names the Forum for thirty minutes, then the Temple of Apollo, the Basilica, the Lupanare and the Teatro Piccolo — all four flagged “Optional” — alongside the Macellum, the Forum Baths, the House of the Vettii, the House of the Faun and a thermopolium. The optional stops account for fifty minutes; the fixed ones for eighty. Two hours is a hundred and twenty.
The advertised floor is $40 and the bookable price was $56.47. A gap of 41%, checked for one adult on a September weekday in English. Only one of the two options was on sale at all; the other is the free-entry Sunday version. This is the ordinary shape of GetYourGuide's “from” pricing rather than anything peculiar to this operator, and on twenty-three of the sixty-two products we priced the gap was over 15%.
The platform's own review summary names the ticket confusion. GetYourGuide's AI summary of forty-two recent reviews reads: “Some travelers say clearer information on entrance tickets and what is included would help.” That is the platform, on the platform's own page, describing the complaint the value score of 4.2 implies.
Value for money at 4.2 is the lowest of any archaeologist walk we track. Twelve archaeologist-led products in our catalogue score 4.4 to 5.0 overall. On the value sub-score specifically, the leaders sit at 4.6 and 4.7. This one is 4.2, on a base of 2,430 reviews, which is large enough to mean something.
The tour begins at an office, not at the gate. “The tour starts at our office, Via Villa dei Misteri 1, first floor of the Pompei Scavi Circumvesuviana train station. Do not go to the archaeological park entrance.” Fifteen minutes early, and they will hold a bag for a fee. Going straight to Porta Marina is the way to miss this tour.
Headsets start at fifteen people. “Whispers will be provided for group bigger than 15 pax.” Every operator we have read sets a different threshold — ten on one listing, sixteen on another, none at all on the Rome train product. There is no way to know in advance which side of it your slot falls.
Under-25s from the EU enter free, and the listing says so. “Children under 18 enter the Park free of charge but must present valid ID or passport at the gate, same for the under 25 with EU citizenship.” The second half of that sentence is the park's rule and very few listings mention it. Carry the document; the ticket is named and checked.
If the park closes, you are refunded or rebooked. “The tour operates in all weather conditions. In the event of an official park closure due to extreme weather or safety reasons, you will receive a full refund or free rebooking.” Clear, and better drafted than most of what we read.

Why does it cost $56.47 when the page says $40?
Because $40 is the advertised floor and $56.47 is what a real date returned. We checked one adult on a September weekday in English; only one of the listing's two options was on sale, and that was its price. The other option is the free-entry Sunday version, which does not run on ordinary dates. A 41% gap is wide but not unusual — on twenty-three of the sixty-two Pompeii products we priced, the gap was over 15%.
Which stops will I actually see?
The Forum for half an hour is fixed, as are the Macellum, the Forum Baths, the House of the Vettii, the House of the Faun and a thermopolium — eighty minutes in total. The Temple of Apollo, the Basilica, the Lupanare and the Teatro Piccolo are all marked optional on the listing's own itinerary, and together they are fifty minutes. If the brothel is on your list, that is the one to ask about at the office before you set off.
How does it compare with the $57 archaeologist walk?
They cost within sixty cents of each other and they are not the same product. The Askos walk carries a 4.8 rating across more than twenty-three thousand reviews with a 4.9 guide score, prints a minute against every stop and turns headsets on from ten people. This one is 4.5 across 2,430, guide 4.6, headsets from fifteen, and five stops that may or may not happen. At the same money we would book the other one.
Where do I meet the guide?
At the operator's office, upstairs in the Pompei Scavi Circumvesuviana station at Via Villa dei Misteri 1 — not at the park entrance, which the listing states in capitals of its own. Arrive fifteen minutes early. They face Porta Marina Superiore, so it is two minutes' walk to the gate once your ticket is in hand, and they will store a bag for a fee if you are travelling with one.
Will I get a whisper headset?
Only if more than fifteen people book your slot. Below that there are none, and two hours on open ground with a group of twelve means standing close. It is not something you can find out before the day, and it is the single most common reason people rate a Pompeii walk below what they thought of the guide.
Is there really free parking?
Conditionally. The includes list says free parking at Osteria Nonna Cherubina in Via Diomede from 1 April, “if open and if available”, and adds that the car park is not gated and the management is not liable for theft or damage. What is the free-entry Sunday option?
A version of the same tour sold for the days when the park charges nothing at the gate — the first Sunday of each month and some public holidays. The listing warns in the same breath that those days are “extremely busy”. Our view is that a free ticket on a day at capacity is a poor trade; one operator we reviewed refuses to run at all on those dates for exactly that reason.
Is it suitable for wheelchair users?
No. The listing marks it not suitable for wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments, and asks that guests be able to walk at a moderate pace without difficulty. We have not taken this tour and do not pretend to have. Nothing here came from the operator, and nobody at Tempio Travel Pompei Tickets saw this page before it went up.
