Summer carriages are packed — and un-air-conditioned. The Circumvesuviana has no air conditioning, and July–August trains from Sorrento run standing-room-full. The €15 reserved-seat Campania Express was the way round that until EAV withdrew it on 1 October 2026; its trains went to the ordinary service instead, which now runs every thirty minutes. Travelling before 9:00 is what is left.

Pickpockets work the tourist trains. The Sorrento–Pompei Scavi run is a known hunting ground precisely because everyone aboard is a visitor. Bags worn in front, phones off the seat, nothing in back pockets — the whole ride is only ~30 minutes.
