About 39% of the price is a ticket the park sells directly. The other $36.49 buys two hours of guiding — roughly $18.25 an hour. If the Villa option carries the €25 ticket instead, the hourly figure on that option is lower than it looks.

Twelve start times came back on our date, from 9:10 onward — more than any other option here, which is what you would expect of the cheapest one.

An hour longer, $26.88 more, and it adds the one building most people picture when they picture Pompeii's frescoes. Three start times on our date against the base option's twelve, so it is the scarcer product as well as the better one.
One thing to check before you book, because the listing does not say it: the park sells a €20 ticket that does not admit you to the suburban villas and a €25 one that does, with an €8 upgrade available on the spot. Which ticket this option carries is not stated. Ask the operator rather than assume.

Worth it if the day is about the afternoon rather than the archaeology. If it is about the archaeology, the Villa option is an hour of the same money spent better.

At six that is $91.23 a head against $59.56 for the shared walk. It never becomes cheaper, and past four people it stops being extravagant. What it buys is pace: a guide who can shorten a street or sit down, which a group of twenty cannot.

Included
The park entry ticket. Sold as “Pompei Express’ entry ticket”. Which of the park's two tickets it is — the €20 or the €25 with the suburban villas — the listing does not say.
Two or three hours with an archaeologist. The operator's word for who leads it, and the thing the 4.9 is attached to.
Headsets, above sixteen people. The listing's threshold on this product. On the same operator's other listing it is ten — the same company, two different numbers.
The right to stay afterwards. “Freedom to explore the archeological site on your own after the tour” is written into the includes list, not implied.
Skip the ticket line. The ticket office, not the gate. Entry is named and everyone passes the same ID check.

Transport. Not included, and not offered. You arrive at the meeting point yourself, and the listing names seven possible starting locations without fixing one.
Food and drink. Except on the tasting option, where it is the entire third hour.
Step-free access. Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments, and the listing gives its reason: steps, ramps and a short steep climb. Mobility scooters are separately not allowed.

The listing names twelve stops and marks every one of them “Visit, Guided tour” without a duration — only the site itself carries one. It also warns that overcrowding and temporary closures change the route. Treat the twelve as candidates for two hours, not as a schedule.

This product includes headsets “for groups of 16 or more”; the operator's entry-ticket walk includes them from ten. With a stated cap of twenty per guide, that gap decides whether a party of twelve hears the guide through an earpiece or through the air.

Overcrowding and closures are named as reasons the route changes. “There may be slight variations in the itinerary due to overcrowding or temporary closures.” On a site where individual houses close without notice, that is the honest sentence — but it also means twelve stops is a list of candidates rather than a promise.

For an hour and a building, yes — it is the frescoed villa most people have in mind when they think of Pompeii's painting. One caution the listing does not raise: the park sells a €20 ticket that does not admit you to the suburban villas and a €25 one that does, with an €8 upgrade on the spot. Which ticket this option carries is not stated. Ask before you book if it matters to you.
Why does the private option cost $374.56 for one person?
Because it is priced per group rather than per head. We checked the same date at four party sizes: $374.56, $409.14, $478.28 and $547.38 for one, two, four and six. At six that is $91.23 each against $59.56 for the shared walk — so it never undercuts the group, but the gap closes from six times to about one and a half.

Will I get a headset?
